Hawks Fall To No. 23 Le Moyne on Senior Day

Manchester, N.H. (April 26) -- The Saint Anselm softball ended on Sunday afternoon as the Hawks dropped a pair of Northeast-10 games to No. 23 ranked Le Moyne on Senior Day. The Hawks fell by a 9-1 final in game one in five innings and lost game two, 6-3.

In game one, the Dolphins took a 2-0 lead in the second and stretched that to 7-0 in the third behind a two-run homer to right by Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y.), her third of the season. Trailing 9-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks loaded the bases with one out and pushed across an unearned run by Liz Trafton (Berwick, Maine). Le Moyne reliever Brenna Klein (Huntington Beach, Calif.) got out of the jam though to preserve the victory. Starter Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, N.Y.) picked up the win, going four innings to improve to 15-3 overall. Saint Anselm starter Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) went the distance, taking the loss to fall to 11-11. In the first inning, Saint Anselm catcher Brittney Birch (Bradford, Mass.) threw out Le Moyne's Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y.) trying to steal third base, giving her the Saint Anselm all-time record with 34 runners thrown out stealing.

After scoring a first-inning unearned run, the Dolphins took advantage of three second-inning Saint Anselm errors and stretched the lead to 6-0. The Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Kate Marquis (Lincoln, R.I.) launched a triple to the outfield fence and senior Julie Beaudry (Worcester, Mass.) looped a single to left for the RBI.

Saint Anselm added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth as Megan Walsh (Randolph, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch, followed by a run by Birch on an RBI groundout by Nicole Baginski (Beverly, Mass.) to make it a 6-3 game.

Katelyn Fowler (Sandy Creek, N.Y.) picked up the win for Le Moyne to improve to 3-2 overall. Lisa Caruso (Granby, Conn.) took the loss for the Hawks, ending her season at 3-7 overall.

With the losses, the Hawks end the season at 18-25-1 overall and 10-17-1 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne is now 34-10 overall and 22-4 in the league.
