Cocoa Beach, Fla. (March 2) - After dropping
game one by a 13-3 final to Ursuline, the Hawks rebounded with a
lopsided 14-0 win over the Arrows in game two of Monday's
doubleheader. The Hawks are now 3-1 on their Spring trip to Florida
through the first two days.
The Hawks seized a 2-1 lead in the first behind a two-RBI double
from senior captain Nicole Baginski (Beverly,
Mass.). Sophomore Raylyn Glavin (Saugus,
Mass.) scored the team's other run on a fielder's choice
in the fifth inning. Baginski finished the game 2-for-3 at the
plate, while Jaclyn Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) was
also 2-for-3. Junior pitcher Lisa Caruso (Granby,
Conn.) took the loss for the Hawks, going just over three
innings to drop to 0-1 on the season.
In game two, the Hawks banged out 14 hits, en route to a 14-0
romp over Ursuline. Saint Anselm got six runs in the first, led by
two-RBI singles by Giannino and sophomore Liz Trafton
(Berwick, Maine). The Hawks put up another four runs in
the fifth, led by a number of the team's newcomers. Kate
Marquis (Lincoln, R.I.) reached on a fielder's choice that
scored senior Katherine Theodorou (Glen Cove,
N.Y.), while Megan Walsh (Randolph,
Mass.) pinch hit and belted an RBI double. Freshman
Kat Scafidi (Hudson, N.H.) drove in another run
with an RBI single in the inning. Trafton finished the game with
two hits and three RBI, while Theodorou was 3-for-4 with one run
batted in and two runs scored. Brittany Birch (Bradford,
Mass.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Junior
Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass.) pitched five
innings in the game, giving up just three hits while striking out a
season-high eight batters.
Saint Anselm is now 3-1 overall on the season. The Hawks return
to action on Tuesday morning as the team begins the day with a
doubleheader vs. Dakota Wesleyan beginning at 9 a.m. The day
concludes with a single game with Marywood University, beginning at
1 p.m. All games are set for Chain of Lakes Field 7.
