Mass. (March 1)-The Saint Anselm
College women's ice hockey team finished their 2008-2009 season
with a 5-0 victory over the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's
College Saturday afternoon at the ECAC Open Tournament at the Hart
Center hosted by Holy Cross. The win finishes the Hawk season at
16-9-2, while the loss drops the Purple Knights to 6-18-3 on the
year.
The Hawks stormed right out of the gate and took the lead on a
goal from freshman forward Michelle Lacombe (Delafield,
Wisconsin) just one minute and two seconds into the game.
Saint Anselm took a 2-0 lead at the 14:09 mark on a power-play goal
from Maria Dougherty
(Middletown,
R.I.).
The lone tally of the second period was notched by Hawk freshman
Aly Zappen (Huntington
Beach,
California) at the 3:58 mark to
extend the lead to 3-0.
Senior forwards Kelsey Johnson
(Byfield,
Mass.) and Kathleen
Twomey (Londonderry,
N.H.) each netted power-play
goals in the third period for the 5-0 Saint Anselm victory.
Sophomore goaltender Carley
Berry
(Danvers,
Mass.) stopped 17 shots to finish
9-4-2 on the season, while Saint Michael's goalie Alysia
Goldman (Ballston Lake,
N.Y.) made 25 saves in the loss.
The women's ice hockey program will say goodbye to seniors

Mass.), Bianca DeSantis
(Georgetown,
Mass.), Maggie Dwyer
(Elkridge, Maryland), Kelsey Johnson and Kathleen Twomey
who combined for 175 goals and 169 assists in their careers.
