Syracuse, N.Y. (May 3) -- The Saint Anselm
softball season came to an end on Saturday afternoon in the
Northeast-10 Tournament Quarterfinals as the Hawks dropped a 4-0
final to No. 3 seed Southern Connecticut at Hopkins Road Park. The
Hawks end the season with a 21-18 overall record.
The Owls jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning
when Khristle Lee (Aztec, N.M.) came home on an
RBI groundout for the early 1-0 lead. Southern Connecticut made it
2-0 in the bottom of the second when Julianne Flood
(Poughquag, N.Y.) drilled an RBI single to right center.
The Owls added two more runs in the fourth on a two-RBI single down
the right field line by Megan Caprossi (Northford,
Conn.) for the 4-0 final. The Hawks picked up four hits on
the afternoon, but were unable to get any runs on the board off of
SCSU starting pitcher Jessica Dempsey (Stratford,
Conn.).
Sophomore Katie Corey (Weymouth, Mass.) took
the loss for the Hawks, going 5.1 innings with four earned runs and
two walks while giving up nine hits. Megan Lemire
(Worcester, Mass.) came in for the final 0.2 innings,
giving up no hits. Dempsey was the winning pitcher for the Owls,
going 7.0 innings with four hits and four strikeouts.
