Springfield, Mass. (April 19) --
Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) led the Hawks with
five goals as the Saint Anselm women's lacrosse team defeated
American International 19-9 on Saturday afternoon in Springfield,
Mass.
The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two goals from Ford and
a goal from Beth Millian (Arlington, Mass.). Goals
from Leigh Krzyston (Bedford, N.H.) and
Jennifer Carew (Concord, N.H.) put the Hawks up
5-1. Tiea Kurlowecz (Concord, Mass.) scored to put
the Hawks up 6-2 and Krzyston struck for her secord goal of the
game to put the Hawks up 7-2. Meghan Ayers (Sayville,
N.Y.), Kurlowecz, and Erica Costanzo (Barnstead,
N.H.) scored to polish off first half scoring for the
Hawks, sending the game into the half 10-6 in favor of Saint
Anselm.
Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.) opened up scoring
in the second half. Ford struck for three straight goals to put the
Hawks up 14-7, while Alyson McDonough (Brunswick,
Maine) scored her lone goal of the game to put the Hawks
up 15-7. Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.) then scored
two successive goals to put the Hawks up 17-7, while Carew scored
her second goal of the game to put Saint Anselm up 18-7. Krzyston
finished off scoring for the Hawks with her third goal of the game.
With the win, Saint Anselm improves to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in
the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets remain winless at 0-13
overall and 0-7 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on
Sunday afternoon as the Hawks host the University of New Haven for
a Noon start at Melucci Field. The Saint Anselm Senior Class of
2008 will be honored in a brief Senior Day ceremoney prior to the
start of the game.
