Henniker, N.H. (December 6)-The Saint Anselm
women's ice hockey team blanked the Pilgrims of New England College
4-0 Saturday afternoon in Henniker. The win improves the Hawks to
6-3-1 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-6-0 on the
season.
The two teams battled through a scoreless opening period of play as
the Hawks controlled much of the offense out shooting the Pilgrims
19-4.
Saint Anselm would not waste much time in the second period as
Liz Burg
(Minneapolis,
Minn.) would get the Hawks on the
board netting her first collegiate goal just 2:13 into the period
assisted by Kelsey Johnson
(Byfield,
Mass.) and Maria
Dougherty (Middletown,
R.I.) Saint Anselm's
Bianca DiSantis
(Georgetown,
Mass.) would extend the Hawk lead
to 2-0 just minutes later scoring off a break-away at the 3:47
mark.
The Hawks would add another score in the second as Kathleen
Twomey (Londonderry,
N.H.) would convert on a
power-play opportunity giving St. Anselm the 3-0 lead heading into
the final period.
Saint Anselm would tack on another score midway through the third
period as Jamie Comrie
(Asburn,
Va.) would net her first
collegiate goal unassisted at the 8:45 mark. New England
would battle back in the third out shooting Saint Anselm13-9 but
the Pilgrims would be unable to find the goal falling to the Hawks
4-0.
Picking up the win in net for the Hawks was Carley
Berry
(Danvers,
Mass.) who finished with 25 saves
on the afternoon in the shutout victory. In net for the Pilgrims
was Teraysa White
(Belgrade,
Maine) who set aside 57 shots in
the losing effort.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, January 3rd, as they will
host Williams College in the Saint Anselm Tournament at Sullivan
Arena at 4 p.m.
