Manchester, N.H. (September 20) -- On Thursday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm field hockey team got back in the win
column with a 4-0 shutout victory over Merrimack in
Northeast-10 Conference action. The four-goal performance was the
team's highest offensive outburst since October 11, 2003 as the
Hawks defeated AIC by a 4-2 final in that game.
Junior Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) got the
Hawks on the board quickly with her first goal of the game just 52
seconds in. Laura Urko (Attleboro, Mass.) added a
goal at the 30:40 mark and the Hawks went into the half with a 2-0
lead. In the second half, the two teams battled for nearly 15
minutes before Rowe found the back of the net again for the 3-0
advantage. Freshman Annie Heaney (East Kingston,
N.H.) closed out the scoring at the 63:39 mark on a
redirected shot that got past Merrimack goalie Jillian
Tobin (Peabody, Mass.).
Sophomore standout Riley Haddock (Falmouth,
Maine) finished with one save to pick up her second win of
the season, while Amy Larrabee (Stratham,
N.H.) made five saves in 62:23 of play. Tobin played
the last 7:28 and didn't record a save.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 2-5 overall and in NE-10
play, while Merrimack falls to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, September 22nd as the
team travels to UMass Lowell for a 1 p.m. start.
