DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Paced by an 11th place finish by freshman Delaney Flanagan (Bedford, N.H.), the Saint Anselm College women's cross country team placed fifth out of 37 programs competing at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
As a team, the Hawks ranked fifth behind Holy Cross, Mount Holyoke, WPI and Trinity (Conn.). Saint Anselm, ranked fifth in the East Region by the USTFCCCA, finished a spot ahead of third-ranked Assumption. In the sub-varsity race, the Hawks placed second out of 16 programs.
Flanagan finished 11th out of 257 competitors on the 5K course, crossing the line in 18:49.21. Classmate Christine Toy (Standish, Maine) was 49th, posting a sub-20 minute time of 19:56.29. Sophomores Holly O'Leary (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Ellen Duane (Braintree, Mass.) finished 52nd and 54th, respectively, with personal best times of 19:58.27 and 19:59.42.
Sophomore Samantha Matthews (Groveland, Mass.) was 59th in the crowded field, turning in a personal record time of 20:04.21 with classmate Dominique Engle (Rutland, Mass.) not far behind with a time of 20:07.26 to finished 63rd. Sophomore Catie Callinan (Litchfield, Mass.) logged a time of 20:25.52, placing 77th.
Junior captain Emily Ryan (Woburn, Mass.) navigated the course in 21:20.92 to round out the Hawks entrants in the varsity race.
Senior Maq Dimastrantonio (Shapleigh, Maine) crossed the line in fifth place in the sub-varsity race and sophomore Leanne Guimond (Barnstable, Mass.) was 10th with a time of 20:33.50. Sophomore Lia Guerette (Ellington, Conn.) ran the course in 20:44.73 with classmates Sarah Mullen (Seekonk, Mass.) and Ava Nardelli (Brockton, Mass.) posting times of 21:26.89 and 21:35.87.
