MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over American International College on Sunday at the South Athletic Field Tennis Courts.
Saint Anselm improves to 3-8 overall on the year, winning its first Northeast-10 Conference contest of the 2019 season. The Hawks conclude their NE10 season on the road with matches against Franklin Pierce and Adelphi – the Ravens will host the Hawks on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m.
Hawks head coach Matt Tiberii, a 1998 graduate of American International, earns his first league win as well as the first against his alma mater. The Yellow Jackets fell to 0-11 on the year with Sunday's result.
The Hawks earned the early point for doubles action, locking down wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Freshman Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and junior Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles before the tandem of Abby Parke (Brunswick, Maine) and Parker Petruney (Hopkinton, Mass.) logged their first career doubles wins with a 6-0 result at third doubles.
In singles action, the Hawks won at the third, fourth, fifth and sixth flights. Sophomore Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) went the distance in her match at No. 3 singles, eventually taking the third set by a 10-3 margin. Bulpitt cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Junior Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) blanked her counterpart at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
Senior Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Mass.) was honored with a pre-match ceremony as part of the squad's Senior Day festivities. One of the winningest student-athletes in team history, Hughes has logged 37 doubles and 31 singles wins and holds the single-season records for wins at No. 1 doubles (12, 2017) and No. 2 doubles (13, 2016).
