EASTON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team was downed by the host Skyhawks from Stonehill College, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
Saint Anselm has lost seven matches in a row, falling to 1-8 overall on the season and to 0-7 against Northeast-10 Conference foes. Stonehill, ranked fourth in the most recent Oracle/ITA Division II East Region rankings, improves to 6-0 on the year.
Stonehill needed just over one hour to blank the Hawks, who were down 1-0 after doubles play. The Skyhawks picked up 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles after blanking the Hawks' third doubles flight, 6-0.
Saint Anselm won only four games in singles play as junior Parker Petruney (Hopkinton, Mass.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 defeat in what proved to be the closest match of the day.
The Hawks will take on Smith College, an NCAA Division III opponent, on Saturday, Oct. 5 at high noon in Northampton, Mass.
