MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team picked up a victory at No. 1 singles on Saturday, but the visiting Chargers from the University of New Haven came away with a 6-1 victory at the South Athletic Field tennis courts.
Saint Anselm wraps up the first month of the season with a 1-7 overall record alongside a record of 0-6 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. New Haven ups its overall and conference record to 4-3.
Hughes earned the 30th singles win of her career at the top flight, downing her counterpart from New Haven by scores of 6-4, 6-0. She needs three additional victories to crack the team's top-10 list for career singles wins.
Freshman Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) battled at No. 2 singles, but came out on the losing end of a 6-4, 7-6 decision.
Saint Anselm looks to rebound at Stonehill on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
