WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team opened its season on Sunday, falling to Assumption College by a 7-0 margin.
In doubles play, the Hawks lost at all three flights by 6-1 scores. Taking the point after doubles, the Greyhounds picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles before earning an injury default at No. 6 singles on their way to the victory.
Sophomore Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) each won five games at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, but both were felled by 6-4, 6-1 scores. Kapothanasis was making her collegiate debut for Saint Anselm.
Saint Anselm falls to 0-1 on the year and will host Plymouth State University at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9.
