Women’s Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Victory at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior Katherine Morrissey (Sturbridge, Mass.), junior Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomore Courtney Russell (North Reading, Mass.) each won a pair of matches to lead the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory against the College of Saint Rose on Saturday at Harriet Myers Middle School.

The Hawks improve to 2-7 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Golden Knights sink to 0-14, 0-9 NE-10.

Morrissey captured her No. 1 singles match against Paige Southwick, 8-6, while Martin also pulled out an 8-6 win against Maggie Moran in No. 3 singles action. Morrissey and Martin then combined to blank Megan Stacklum and Gabriella Pizzanelli, 8-0.

Russell posted a No. 4 singles win against Stacklum, 8-3, and teamed with fellow sophomore Kathryn Rindo (Lowell, Mass.) to earn an 8-6 victory against Southwick and Moran in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.

Saint Rose forfeited No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.

The Hawks return to action Sunday, April 6 at 10 a.m. as they close their two-match road trip against Le Moyne College.
