NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Christine Woods (Wilmington, Mass.) captured the lone singles win of the match for the squad and junior Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H.) and freshman Katie Roberts (So. Windsor, Conn.) combined to come away victorious in a down-to-the-wire doubles tilt, but the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team fell to the University of New Haven, 7-2, Saturday evening at Yale University's Cullman-Heyman Center.
The Hawks drop to 1-7 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Chargers improve to 6-3, 4-3 NE-10.
Woods dropped the opening set of her No. 5 singles match against Christina Santos, 6-4, but then battled back to take the next two sets, 6-2, 10-2.
Martin and Roberts pulled out a 9-8 nailbiter in No. 3 doubles against Santos and Jess MacPhee.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. as they travel to take on the College of Saint Rose. The next and final home match of the season for the Hawks is Friday, April 11 at 3 p.m. against Assumption College.
