Ryan, Spinks claim NE10 women's basketball weekly awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was well represented on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Awards list released on Monday.

Senior Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) secured Player of the Week honors and freshman Macy Spinks (Luton, England) was named Rookie of the Week. The duo helped nationally-ranked Saint Anselm to a 84-83 victory over Southern New Hampshire University last Wednesday.

Ryan, named Player of the Week for the second time in 2019, secured weekly honors for the sixth time in her career after scoring a career-high 33 points against the Penmen. She finished 13-for-23 from the floor while notching 17 rebounds on the evening for her 43rd career double-double.

To date, Ryan leads all NCAA Division II student-athletes with 15 rebounds per game and her 29.2 points per contest is the second-best figure in the country. She leads the NE10 in points per game, overall rebounding (75), offensive rebounds per game (4.6), defensive rebounds per game (10.4) and field goals made (62).

Since joining the Hawks as a sophomore in 2017, Ryan has scored 1,270 points to rank 11th all-time. Her 19.2 career points per game is tied for first all-time and her 777 career rebounds is the eighth-best figure in team annals.

Spinks notched 11 points for the Hawks in the narrow win over Southern New Hampshire, posting the go-ahead free throw with 2.3 seconds left in regulation time. She has picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in her young collegiate career.

Averaging nearly 35 minutes per game to rank third in the NE10, Spinks has also posted the league's third-best assist-to-turnover ratio (2.18) while dishing out 4.8 helpers per tilt, the fourth-finest mark in the NE10. Spinks has helped Saint Anselm average 18.6 assists per contest, leading the conference while ranking 12th in NCAA Division II.

The Hawks, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, hit the road to take on regionally-ranked Stonehill this Saturday, Dec. 7. The game will be played at 1:30 p.m.
