MANSFIELD, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's basketball team swept the Weekly Awards revealed by the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday.
Senior Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) was named the conference's Player of the Week award while freshman Macy Spinks (Luton, England) picked up the league's Rookie of the Week nod. The duo helped the No. 9/10-ranked Hawks to a 79-62 win over Saint Michael's on Wednesday.
Ryan matched career-high marks in points (31) and rebounds (21) in the team's home opener. Her 21 caroms were reached for the first time since Mar. 3, 2019 at Adelphi in the opening round of the NE10 postseason tournament. She also logged two blocks in the victory, shooting 13-for-19 from the floor.
The senior exited play with over 1,200 career points and over 750 career rebounds, passing Liz Pelletier '87 for 12th place all-time in team history with 1,214 points scored on the Hilltop. Her 752 career rebounds moves her to eighth all-time in program history, passing Kaila Duarte '17 and her total of 741.
Among active NCAA Division II student-athletes, her 11.1 rebounds per game is the second-best mark in the country and the sixth-best figure across all three NCAA divisions. She has 41 career double-doubles, the third-most in the division, and her 17.9 career points per game stands as the fifth-best figure among active Division II student-athletes.
Spinks handed out 11 assists for Saint Anselm, reaching that threshold to become the first student-athlete to do so since Candace Andrews '17 handed out 13 assists against Southern New Hampshire on Feb. 21, 2017. She also logged her first career double-double, scoring 14 points to rank second on the Hawks.
Through two weeks of play, Spinks averages just over 34 minutes played per game, leading the conference with a 4.25 assist-to-turnover ratio while ranking third in assists per game (5.7) and fifth in total assists (17).
