FOXBORO, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team claimed a 3-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Foxboro Sports Center.
The Hawks improve to 3-2-1 on the year and remain undefeated in league play with a 2-0-1 record. The Skyhawks drop to 1-3-1 overall and to 0-3-1 against NE10 opponents.
Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) buried the first goal of the game at 19:09 in the first period. His tally provided the Hawks with a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Iacullo finished the day with one goal and two assists. Senior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) converted on a power-play goal in the second period, giving the Hawks a 2-0 cushion at 7:33.
Stonehill's Cameron Wright answered with a goal of his own 11 seconds after Ferraro's goal, cutting the deficit to one.
Junior Liam O'Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) added to the Hawks advantage with a power-play goal later in the second period at 13:13, making the score 3-1. Both teams battled in the third period but neither one found the back of the net.
In goal, freshman Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) captured his third win of his career, stopping 24 shots while yielding one goal. Stonehill's goaltender Matthew Schoen ended the contest with 41 saves. Iacullo had a team-high 11 faceoff wins on the day. Saint Anselm outshot the Skyhawks, 45-25.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, Nov. 22 as they host Queen City Cup rival Southern N.H. at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
