FOXBORO, Mass. – Freshman Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) of the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team scored a game-tying goal with 1:02 to go in regulation time, setting the Hawks up to salvage a 3-3 tie at Stonehill on Friday.
The Hawks overall record stands at 2-2-1 on the year and the squad's Northeast-10 Conference record is 1-0-1 exiting play. Stonehill moves to 1-2-1 and to 0-2-1 against NE10 foes. Saint Anselm will once again battle the Skyhawks at the Foxboro Sports Center on Saturday at 5:10 p.m.
After the game's first goal by junior Matt Chisholm (Scituate, Mass.), the Skyhawks scored two consecutive power play goals on a five minute major to capture a 2-1 lead in the second stanza. Junior John Femia (Canton, Mass.) drew the game even at two at 16:34 of the third quarter, putting home a feed from classmate Shawn Moors (Pointe Claire, Quebec).
Stonehill's Cameron Wright put the hosts ahead by a 3-2 margin with just under three minutes to go in regulation. The Hawks, who finished the third quarter with a decisive advantage in shots (21-to-8), were able to force overtime with Andary's late goal, assisted by senior Dave Almeida (Bristol, R.I.) and Moors.
The Hawks recorded four of the five shots in overtime, but neither team was able to break the deadlock. Stonehill backstop Matthew Schoen had 47 saves, including four stops in overtime, to secure the victory. Freshman goaltender Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) made 36 saves, conceding three goals.
