Saint Anselm returns home with a 2-2 overall record after a 17-13 road win at Pace last Saturday to even the all-time series at 6-6 with the Setters. Freshman quarterback Michael Pierce struck for a pair of touchdown passes and threw for 197 yards in the victory, which is the second straight for Saint Anselm over Pace. Freshman defensive back Dale DeGraw led the Hawks with 11 tackles, earning Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week honors. DeGraw is the third Hawk to win the freshman award this year, joining teammates Ethan Sylvain and Michael Pierce.
A Look at Saint
Saint Anselm enters the game at 2-2 overall and is off to its best start since starting at 3-0 in the 2004 season. As a team, the Hawks again rank among the Northeast-10 and NCAA leaders in a number of statistical categories on both offense and defense. Offensively, freshman quarterback Michael Pierce is 19th in the nation in both pass completions per game (21.67) and total passing yards (790) and leads the Northeast-10 in yards of total offense with 1,067. Sophomore wide receiver Marc Wilson, the 2008 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year, is 10th in the nation in receptions per game (8.00), 18th in receiving yards per game (109.33) and 13th in total receiving yards with 328. Defensively, senior All-America candidate Dan Bohenek is 11th in the nation and first in the Northeast-10 in tackles per game with 11.33. With eight tackles last week, Bohenek now has 201 for his career, placing him sixth on the Saint Anselm all-time list.
A Look at
The Warriors enter this afternoon's game following a 42-21 rout of Stonehill last weekend to improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10. Sophomore quarterback James Suozzo led the offense with 438 yards of total offense as he passed for 324 yards and three touchdowns, as well as rushing for 114 yards and two scores. Suozzo was honored as the Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Week and was awarded the Greater Boston Gridiron Club Gold Helmet Award this week. In addition to the performance by Suozzo, wide receiver Chris Laham caught nine passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. In the process, he set the school record for career touchdowns with 29 and ended the game with 31 touchdowns. The Warriors piled up 630 yards of total offense in the win, just 17 shy of the school record set last year in a 48-42 home loss to Saint Anselm.
