Boston, Mass. (October 15) -- Saint Anselm junior running back Luke St. Marie (Mill Creek, Wash.) earned the Boston Globe/New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award for his 241-yard record-setting performance in a 48-42 win over Merrimack on Friday night.
St. Marie rushed for the single-game record, along with two touchdowns, as the Hawks snapped a 34-game losing streak in the shootout victory. St. Marie scored on runs of 65 and 45 yards, with the 45-yarder coming late in the game to seal the win. St. Marie also earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
He is just the third Saint Anselm player to win the Gold Helmet Award and the first since former quarterback Shane Dinagen in 2005.
St. Marie and the Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 18th as the team travels to Southern Connecticut for a 1 p.m. start in New Haven, Conn.
