SHOREHAM, N.Y. – Sophomore Tad Link (Newington, Conn.) carded a seven-over-par 149 to lead the Saint Anselm College golf team to a ninth place finish at the Dowling Shootout at Tall Grass Golf Club on Long Island this past weekend.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• For the second straight tournament Link shot the Hawks' best two-day score, starting Friday with an even-par 71 to post a ninth place finish. Link then posted a 78 on Saturday to finish in 16th place overall.
• Sophomore Nick Carter (South Easton, Mass.) finished with a two-day score of 157 (78-79), finishing in 38th place overall.
• Sophomore Robbie Cole (Hopkinton, Mass.) added a two-day total of 161, finishing 19 over par and tying for 43rd among individuals.
• Freshmen John Dowding (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Richie McDonald (Lynn, Mass.) rounded out the Hawk golfers this weekend. Dowding shook off a 93 on day one to post a nine-over 80 on day two while McDonald posted a 177 over the two-day tournament.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
• Saint Thomas Aquinas College won the event with a dominating 15-under par performance. Le Moyne, which finished second, was 29 strokes behind the Spartans.
• Saint Anselm finished 11 strokes behind eighth-place Dominican College (N.Y.) and 15 better than American International College.
NOTES
• Cole and McDonald each participated in their first tournaments of the season this past weekend.
UP NEXT
• Saint Anselm will travel to the Division II Challenge at Quechee Highland Golf Club in White River Junction, Vt., on this final weekend of September. The event, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, will be the final tune-up before the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament on Oct. 3 and 4.
