DUDLEY, Mass. – Jess Perkins did not drop a game at No. 1 singles for the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team, but host Nichols won each of the other eight matches to defeat the Hawks 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Robinson Tennis Courts.
Perkins improved to 17-3 on the season for Saint Anselm (7-9) by posting her ninth 6-0, 6-0 victory of the season at the top spot. However, Nichols (15-3) showed its depth by sweeping the doubles matches and recording straight-set victories at the final five singles spots in the first meeting between the two programs.
The Bison started the match by claiming each of the three doubles matches. The closest match of the three came at No. 1 doubles where Amarie Settiwongse and Ashley Dallaire edged Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes by an 8-5 scoreline.
The longest match of the day in singles was the No. 3 singles match between Hughes and Megan Nathanson, with Nathanson coming out on top 6-3, 7-5. Alanna Judd, Daniela Saldarriaga, Isabelle Leonardi and Rachel McDonald were also victorious in straight sets for the Bison. Ashley Sulkin and Kayla Hodas made their season debuts in singles for the Hawks, falling to Saldarriaga and McDonald at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
