MANSFIELD, Mass. – After recording back-to-back shutouts last week, freshman goalkeeper Payton Wildrick of the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Wildrick posted a combined seven saves in shutouts of Stonehill and American International last week. She made five saves in a 1-0 road victory over the Skyhawks on Tuesday and added two more to blank the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, on Saturday.
The consecutive shutouts were the first back-to-back clean sheets for Saint Anselm since the Hawks kept out Southern New Hampshire, Assumption and Stonehill in succession between Oct. 22-30, 2013. With the pair of wins, Wildrick is now 2-2-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average and .788 save percentage in eight appearances, including four starts, this season.
Wildrick's play in net also helped the Hawks move up the NE10 standings as the Hawks pursue their first NE10 Championship berth since 2013. Saint Anselm is currently tied with Bentley two points behind Stonehill for the eighth and final berth in the NE10 Championship, although the Skyhawks have played one more game than the other contending teams.
The Hawks travel to the University of New Haven to face the Chargers on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.
