PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Saint Anselm College senior guard Candace Andrews has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCCA) East All-Region Second Team, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Andrews, the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-NE10 First Team selection, becomes the first All-Region selection since Addie Stiles in 1998. Andrews posted her best season on the Hilltop this year, playing 31.4 minutes per game and averaging 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.4 steals per game. Andrews also shot a career-best 46.0% from the field and 73.8% from the charity stripe this season.
This season, Andrews scored in double-figures in 27-of-29 games and eclipsed 20 points in a game 10 times. She scored 26 points on three separate occasions this season and scored a season-high 28 points in the NE10 Semifinals against Bentley. She has two double-double on the year, the senior has 11 games with 7+ assists this season, including matching the program record for assists (13) on Feb. 21 against Southern New Hampshire.
During her four years on the Hilltop, Andrews was a three-time All-NE10 selection, an NE10 All-Rookie Team choice and the 2013-14 NE10 Rookie of the Year. She has scored 1,478 points to go with 377 rebounds, 500 assists, 267 steals and 50 blocks. In program history, Andrews ranks fifth in scoring, fourth in scoring average (14.6 ppg), fourth in assists, third in field goals made (610), third in steals and 14th in blocks.
The senior helped lead the Hawks to a 19-10 record this season and the program's first NE10 Semifinal appearance since 2000. Over her four years, the Hawks posted a 61-49 (.555) record and qualified for the NE10 postseason in three years, while earning the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 1999 last season.
The All-Region teams were selected by NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from institutions and conference offices.
Andrews was joined on the Second Team by Calli Balfour of Adelphi, Lexi Bruno of Goldey-Beacom, MacKenzie Rowland of Queens and Tianna Smith of Bloomfield. The First Team was highlighted by East Region Player of the Year Madison Rowland from Queens, as well as Kristen Drogsler of Caldwell, Jen Gemma of Bentley, Sierra Clark of Adelphi and Dana Watts from American International.
