Page wins third-straight for men's tennis in loss to Adelphi

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Senior Benji Page compiled his team-leading 10th singles victory of the season for the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team in an 8-1 loss to Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Point Set Racquet Club.

In the last match of the day on court, Page outlasted David Leader for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 victory to provide Saint Anselm (2-14, 1-8 NE10) with its lone point of the match. Adelphi (4-7, 4-3 NE10) used a doubles sweep and straight-set victories at the top five singles flights to record the 8-1 win.

Page's win moved the senior to 10-7 on the season and 5-4 in NE10 play, as he leads the team in overall victories and conference wins. He has won his last three matches and is 7-3 in his last 10.

Adelphi swept the three doubles matches winning by scores of 8-2, 8-5 and 8-3, respectively, across the three flights. Although all five of the Panthers' singles wins came in straight sets, four of the sets were decided by two-game margins.

Sabin Adrian Saveluc edged Adam Weinstein by scores of 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Daniel Robres de Veciana closed out Brian Kavanagh in a close second set for a 6-2, 7-5 victory and Ilya Kalabukhau fended off Daniel Kmetz in a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.

Saint Anselm hosts Concordia (N.Y.), the top-ranked team in the East Region according to the most recent Oracle/ITA Rankings, for a 10 a.m. match on Sunday, Apr. 8. The doubles matches will occur in the Carr Center before the match will move outdoors for singles. The match will be played under Division I rules.
