MANCHESTER, N.H. – Benji Page had a hand in both match wins for the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team in a 7-2 loss to Division I Holy Cross on Thursday afternoon at South Tennis Courts.
Page recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles and paired with Daniel Kmetz for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles for Saint Anselm (0-2), which was playing its first home match of the fall. However, Holy Cross (1-1) picked up two doubles points and won the top-five singles matches in straight sets to defeat the Hawks.
The tandems of Peter Campito and Matthew Slowinski and Matthew Murphy and Andrew Vroman gave the Crusaders the first two points in doubles with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The Hawks got a point on the board heading into singles courtesy of Page and Kmetz's 8-6 win over Johnny McAuliffe and Tom Cimini.
Page dropped just one game to top McAuliffe in the first singles match of the afternoon to finish to even the match at 2-2. Slowinski, Campito, Murphy, Vroman and Cimini picked up straight-set victories in the other five singles matches for Holy Cross. The closest of the five Holy Cross singles wins was the match between Cimini and Kyle Harris at No. 5 singles, which Cimini won, 6-4, 6-3.
The Hawks head across town to face Southern New Hampshire University to open Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
