Men's skiing, Murray qualify for regionals

ANDOVER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team qualified for the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championship and Jill Murray did so individually this weekend as the Hawks competed at Blackwater/Proctor Ski Area.

The men qualified as a team for regionals for the first time since 2013 by finishing fifth in the MacConnell Division over the course of the season, led by a season-best third-place finish on Saturday. Murray made the cut for regionals for the second-straight year as an indivudual by virtue of being the top individual in the MacConnell Division standings whose team did not qualify for regionals and will ski at the event for the third time altogether.

On Saturday, Saint Anselm had four top-20 finishes on the men's side, led by an eighth-place finish by Benji Page. Page finished seventh in both runs and posted a two-run time of 1:37.18. Alex Gowen and Luke Heald finished 14th and 17th, respectively, with times of 1:38.92 and 1:39.61. Stephen McLeod was the fourth Hawk in the top 20, finishing 19th in 1:39.78.

The women placed sixth on Saturday behind three top-20 finishes of their own. Leika Scott was the team's top finisher, posting the fifth-fastest second run (46.81) to finish 13th in 1:36.39. Murray placed 15th with a time of 1:37.04, while Katherine Quinn came in 19th in 1:40.03. Taylor Cudhea finished 28th with a time of 1:42.71.

On Sunday, Page and Gowen were again the top-two finishers for the men, with Page placing 13th (1:31.80) and Gowen 19th (1:33.52). Heald recorded a 24th-place finish (1:34.17), while Michael Mullaney placed 27th (1:39.88).

Scott and Murray paced the women on Sunday with 10th and 11th-place finishes. Scott finished in the top 11 in both runs for a combined time of 1:43.69 and Murray was in the top 15 in both runs for a total time of 1:44.04. Quinn and Cudhea joined the pair in the top 20, with Quinn finishing 19th (1:46.54) and Cudhea 20th (1:46.84).

The USCSA Eastern Regional Championships will be held at West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19.
