Skiing teams host Saint Anselm Carnival at Crotched Mountain

BENNINGTON, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's and women's skiing teams hosted the Saint Anselm Carnival at Crotched Mountain this weekend with Jill Murray's seventh-place finish in the women's giant slalom highlighting the Hawks' performances on Saturday and Sunday.

In Saturday's slalom races, the men and women both placed sixth of nine teams. The women were 16 seconds behind first-place Brown and five behind fourth-place UConn. The men finished 10 seconds behind first-place UConn as the top-four were separated by around three seconds.

Leika Scott led the Hawks in the slalom, matching her best placement of the season by coming in 11th position (1:51.25). Her first-run time of 52.74 seconds was seventh in the field. Murray was also inside the top-20 finishers in 17th place (1:54.10), while Katherine Quinn (1:57.78) and Taylor Cudhea (1:58.52) placed in the top 30.

In the men's slalom, Luke Heald led Saint Anselm, finishing 13th (1:41.06) to match his second-best placement of the season. The freshman posted the fourth-best first run of day, crossing the line in 49.05 seconds. Benji Page was a little less than a second behind Heald in 17th (1:41.59), with Stephen McLeod (1:46.66) and Michael Mullaney (1:51.50) finishing 30th and 34th, respectively.

In the giant slalom on Sunday, the men placed fifth, nine seconds off the pace of first-place Clarkson, while the women were sixth, 11 seconds behind first-place Brown.

Murray finished 2.45 seconds off individual champion Ali Gunesch of Brown's pace, posting her best finish of the season by coming in seventh (2:03.21). Murray's two runs ranked seventh and 10th in the event as she put together her fourth-straight top-20 showing. Scott finished 18th (2:06.54) for the Hawks, while Katherine Quinn recorded her second-best finish of the season in 20th (2:07.39).

In the final giant slalom race of his career, Alex Gowen led the men by notching his fourth top-15 finish of the season, finishing 13th overall (1:59.94). He was followed by Heald, who placed 19th (2:00.76) to place inside the top 20 or the fourth time this season. Page (23rd, 2:01.55) and McLeod (28th, 2:02.83) also finished in the top 30 for the Hawks.

Saint Anselm competes at Blackwater/Proctor Ski Area in Andover, N.H. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12 in its final preparation for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19 at West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y.
