QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – Alex Gowen posted a pair of top-20 finishes to lead the performances of the Saint Anselm College men's skiing at the Castleton Invitational at West Mountain this weekend.
In Saturday's giant slalom, Gowen finished 20th overall with a time of 1:40.93 and he improved to 13th in Sunday's slalom, finishing in 1:51.86. He has now finished in the top 20 in all four races this season.
Also in the giant slalom, Alex Conrad and Michael Mullaney placed 37th and 38th, finishing in 1:47.24 and 1:48.01, respectively. Four Hawks were among 20 skiiers to not finish at least one run, including Benji Page, who posted the sixth-fastest time (48.95 seconds) in his first run.
On Sunday, Conrad recorded a 24th-place finish in 1:58.42, with Mullaney not far behind in 28th (2:02.35). Luke Heald was right behind Mullaney in 29th (2:04.88) and Stephen McLeod finished in 2:39.20 to place 47th.
As a team, the Hawks finished seventh of nine in the giant slalom and sixth of nine in the slalom.
Saint Anselm travels to Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y. on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28.
