Golf Competes At Pine Needles Intercollegiate

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Saint Anselm College golf team competed at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate, held at the Pine Needles Lodge and Club this past Monday and Tuesday.  The Hawks placed seventh out of the seven team field in their first action of the Spring golf season.  Through two days of action, the Hawks posted team scores of 323 and 326, respectively, to shoot a cumulative 649.  Guilford College captured the victory in the two-day event, carding a combined 590 across each day to lead the field.

Sophomore Joseph Fitzsimmons (Marshfield, Mass.) placed in a three-way tie for 15th place after the first day of action, carding a 77 through the first 18 holes as the only player from Saint Anselm to finish within the top-20.  Freshman golfer Jason Lussier (Holliston, Mass.) and sophomore Timothy Rattigan (Reading, Mass.) tied for second on the team by shooting an 81 on the first day of action.  Freshman Tim Grossman (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Emilio Bardini (Salem, Mass.) handed in scores of 84 and 88, respectively, after day one.

Lussier led the field of Hawks on the second day of action, turning in a 79 to conclude his two days with a team-leading 160 to place 20th overall in the field.  Fitzsimmons and Rattigan finished with scores of 162 while Grossman duplicated his previous day's performance, carding a second-day 84.  Bardini improved his second day's performance by six strokes but placed 33rd overall against the field with a 170.

Guilford claimed victory in the tournament as all five golfers placed within the top 15 of the field.  Bridgewater College's John Phillips had the lowest two-day score amongst the field, shooting a second-day 69 to finish with a 142.
