WORCESTER, Mass. – Four members of the Saint Anselm College field hockey team recorded at least one point en route to a 3-0 road win over the Greyhounds from Assumption College.
Saint Anselm (12-1, 6-1 NE10), the third-ranked team in NCAA Division II according to the National College Field Hockey Coaches Association, improves to 12-1 overall on the season while Assumption (6-7, 4-4 NE10), who was edged by the Hawks earlier in the season by a 6-2 score, falls to 6-7 on the year.
Jackie Guillemette tucked a shot just into the left side of the goal, creating an early 1-0 advantage for Saint Anselm by scoring only 97 seconds into the tilt. Emma Kincaid answered with a goal in the game's 30th minute, receiving a pass from Maddie Bressler to elevate the Hawks to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Mia Vecchione cashed in on a penalty stroke in the second half to cap off a well-rounded offensive effort for Saint Anselm, who outshot the host Greyhounds by a 23-to-11 margin.
Freshman Julia Hand improved to 9-1 in her Hawks career, posting a seven-save shutout to record her fourth complete game clean sheet of the season. Sarah Bodzinski yielded three goals on 10 shots for Assumption – she was assisted by two defensive saves by Kolby Burger.
Three of the final five regular season games for Saint Anselm will be played at Grappone Stadium, beginning with a 6 p.m. tilt under the lights against Bentley this Friday, Oct. 13.
