EASTON, Mass. – John Marculitis went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Flynn went 2-for-4 with a run scored, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team fell to Stonehill College, 5-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks fall to 10-21 overall and 5-12 in the NE10, while Stonehill improves to 10-22 and 4-9 in league games. Saint Anselm returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to American International College for a 3:30 p.m. matchup with the Yellow Jackets.
Dan Bodi and Colin Rios added the other hits for Saint Anselm as they each went 1-for-4 at the dish. Adam Krol dropped to 1-2 on the year, tossing eight innings in a complete game effort while allowing five runs on nine hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts.
Stonehill's Jeremy Roberts earned his first win of the season, pitching a complete game and scattered six hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. John Orzechowski and Joe Klingensmith each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Steve Lee was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored to lead Stonehill.
The Skyhawks plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the second after Steve Lee walked and Justin Nicklas singled through the left side to put runners on the corners. Stonehill then executed a double steal to allow Lee to score and put the home team in front 1-0.
Stonehill extended its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Orzechowski and Klingensmith, while Eddie Bowler picked up an RBI with a double.
Roberts kept the Saint Anselm offense in check through the first seven innings as he allowed only four hits until the top of the eighth. Matthew Flynn led off the frame with his second hit of the game and moved to second on a groundout. With two outs in the inning, Marculitis stepped in and singled to right field, allowing Flynn to score from second and make it a 4-1 game.
Stonehill added one more run in their half of the eighth as Lee went deep for his fourth homerun of the season.
The Hawks put a runner on in the top of the ninth, but Dan Bodi would be stranded on base as the Skyhawks closed out the win.
