Baseball falls in series finale at Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team wrapped up a three-game set at Limestone College with a 15-3 setback to the host Saints on Sunday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C.

The Hawks drop to 0-3 with the defeat and return to action on March 4 when they take on Nyack College in Winter Park, Fla.

Connor Parent and Max Wadington each went 1-for-3 at the plate for Saint Anselm, while Tyler McKeon was 1-for-4. Dan Bodi and Jason Turner added 1-for-2 days, respectively, while Vincent Fortini picked up a hit in his lone at-bat. Parent, Jon McQuarrie and Turner each scored runs in the game, with Aaron Crandall and Bodi picking up RBI's.

Jonathan Dunn suffered the setback for Saint Anselm, allowing seven runs on five hits with four walks in 1.2 innings of work. John Lavoie worked 1.1 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits, with Collin Smith (seven hits, three runs) and Max Hall working two innings apiece. Hall allowed only one baserunner during his outing, issuing one walk. Elijah Fish wrapped up the game making his collegiate debut, allowing one run on one hit in one inning.

Limestone jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, and the Hawks finally got on the board in the top of the third as Aaron Crandall grounded into a fielder's choice, but it allowed Jason Turner to score.

The Hawks added two runs in the top of the fourth as Dan Bodi hit an RBI single up the middle that plated Connor Parent. Jon McQuarrie was also on base and he was able to score from second on an error for the Hawks' third run of the game.

The Hawks would threaten again in the top of the eight as Mike Goddu worked a walk to open the inning before Vincent Fortini singled up the middle to put runners on the corners with no outs. Unfortunately, the Saint would work out of the jam as Michael Todd Harris struck out the side to end the inning.
