SEPTEMBER 2012
Welcome Back, My Friends!
To all of the returning student-athletes, and those of you that are new to St. A’s, please accept these lyrics from an album by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, “Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends, we’re so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside!” It is the start of a new school year and athletic seasons. There is always excitement in the air at this time of year. New people are here, and I’m one of ‘em. Now, we do expect this particular show to end for each of you after about four years, but we want your affiliation with St. A’s to last a lifetime!
As I mentioned at the opening meetings for all the teams in the last few weeks, I urge all of the 490-plus student-athletes here to take part in all that St. A’s and the Manchester area has to offer you. Participate on campus and in the community, excel in the classroom, strive to be the best you can be in competition, and make connections that last a lifetime. The Anselmian Way will carry you far in life – whether you spend it here in Manchester, or as far away as Hong Kong!
It was great to see the support for the teams playing at home this past weekend and I urge each of you to continue that display throughout the school year. This week you can watch field hockey vs. AIC on Saturday; women's soccer plays New Haven and men's and women's cross country host the Shacklette Invitational this Saturday (Yeah, I know, Saturday is a sleep in day!); and men's soccer hosts Mercy on Sunday afternoon. Of course, for those of you on the road this weekend, you can always go watch football at Assumption this Friday night, volleyball in Bridgeport on Saturday, or golf at Bowdoin! Regardless of the location, I hope to see all of you supporting your friends. Remember, the best way to have friends and fans is to be one!
GO HAWKS!
